Abstract

ვრცლად არის წარმოდგენილი საქართველოში უმაღლესი განათლების სისტემის და დაწესებულებების შექმნის და კერძოდ ქუთაისში აკაკი წერეთლის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტის დაარსების და განვითარების ისტორია.

Higher education institutions in Georgia have a long-lasting history. In the III-IV centuries there was the higher philosophical and rhetoric school in Phazis, where Georgian and foreign went to. In the XII century there were two educational centres in Georgia. They were Gelati and Ikalto Academies. The Gelati Academy continued its existence even in the dark period of Mongol rule. According to the teaching method there were institutes closed to the higher school, which existed in the kingdom of Kartl-Kakheri, seminaries of Tbilisi and Telavi. In 1918, the institute was opened in Tbilisi, the iniciator and establisher was Ivane Javakhishvili. One of the branch of higher-education institute of Tbilisi is the Pedagogical Institute of Kutaisi which celebrated its 85 th anniversary this year. On January 8, in 1933 the pedagogical institute was opened in Kutaisi. In 1990 the pedagogical Institute of Kutaisi was transformed into Akaki Tsereteli state University, In 2003, after the “Roses Revolution”, Georgian government united some higher institutes. In 2006, N. Muskhelishvili State Technical University joined to Akaki Tsereteli State University. In 2010, Subtropical Agricultural Institute also joined to Akaki Tsereteli State University. Nowadays, outside Tbilisi Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University is one of the highest educational centers.
