Abstract

Ioseb Kipshidze ia a unique phenomenon in the Kartvelological science of the 20th century. It is difficult to find a researcher in the Georgian scientific space who left such valuable works in a short period of time. In fact, he laid the foundation for one of the directions of linguistic Kartvelology – Studying Megrelian-Laz. The paper discusses several papers by Ioseb Kipshidze dedicated to studying Megrelian-Laz and text of the report that was unknown to the public until recently. Some of them were published in magazines and newspapers at the beginning of the last century, while others were unpublished. The materials preserved in the fund of the Museum of literature, the National Archives of Georgia, National Center of Manuscripts were published in 2015 (scientific editor G. Gogolashvili). This publication brought J. Kipshidze’s important works back to the scientific space. In these papers J. Kipshidze will be presented to the readers not only as a researcher with a unique linguistic intuition but also as a sincere supporter and globally minded person of the country.
